Jellycade

Privacy policy

Last updated September 6, 2026.

This page describes what the Jellycade portal stores. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

Key points

  • We do not sell your personal data, and we do not run advertising trackers.
  • An account is a display name and an identifier. Signing in adds the email address your provider gives us; playing as a guest adds nothing.
  • You choose your display name yourself. The name on your Google, Apple or Discord account and your email address are never shown to other players and never sent to the games you play.
  • Analytics is optional, off until you accept it in Europe, and switchable off anywhere.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it.

Who we are

Jellycade Inc. operates this portal and decides what is collected on it. In the language of European law we are the controller of that data. You can reach us in writing at:

Jellycade Inc.

We are based in Canada, so your data is handled here, along with the places named under who else sees your data.

What we store, and for how long

Everything in this table exists because the portal needs it to work. There is no profile built about you, and no record of a game you merely looked at.

WhatWhyHow long
Account record — an identifier and the display name you chose; plus the email address, provider identifier and the name on the account if you sign in with Google, Discord or Apple. Only the display name and the identifier are ever shown or sharedSo the same account works across every gameUntil you ask us to delete it
Sign-in tokens from your providerTo confirm the sign-in. We never receive your passwordWith the account
Session record — including the IP address and browser user-agent the sign-in came fromTo keep you signed in, and to investigate abuse of an account30 days from last use, then it expires
Ratings — your thumb on a gameSo the score is one vote per person and you can change your mindUntil you change it, or the account is deleted
Game progress, balances and entitlementsSo they follow you between devicesUntil the account is deleted
Presence — that a tab is currently on a gameTo show live player countsMinutes; it ages out on its own and is never stored historically
On what legal basis (EEA and UK readers)
  • Performing our agreement with you — the account, session, ratings, progress and balances. Without them there is no portal to use.
  • Our legitimate interests — keeping the session’s IP address and user agent to detect and investigate abuse, and counting live players. We keep these narrow and short.
  • Your consent — analytics, wherever we ask you for it. You can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it.

Cookies and browser storage

Some of this is cookies and some is local storage, which is the same idea with a different name: a value your browser keeps and hands back to the site. This is all of it.

NameWhat it is forLifetime
portal.* cookiesYour signed-in session, or your guest identity. Required for the site to work30 days, refreshed as you use the site
jellycade.analytics.v1Whether you accepted or rejected analyticsUntil you change it or clear site data
jellycade.analytics.region.v1Whether your region requires us to ask — a yes or no, never the country itself30 days
jellycade.locale.v1The language you picked, so an address without one in it takes you back to the same language. Set only when you choose oneA year, or until you clear site data
jellycade:play-tierWhich version of the game player your browser needs, so it is worked out once rather than every timeUntil you clear site data
jellycade:presence-tabA random per-tab number so a page refresh does not count you twice in the player countUntil the tab closes
_ga, _ga_*Google Analytics. Set only if you accept analytics, and deleted when you withdrawUp to 2 years, or until you withdraw

Only the analytics row is optional; the rest are what makes the site function, so there is no toggle for them. Clearing site data in your browser removes all of it.

Optional analytics

Whether we ask you first depends on where you are. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland we ask before loading Google Analytics or setting any analytics cookie, and load nothing until you accept. Everywhere else analytics is on unless you turn it off. Use Cookie settings in the footer to change your choice, in either direction, at any time.

To tell the two apart we read the country our network provider, Cloudflare, derives from your connection. We keep only the resulting yes-or-no in your browser, never the country itself, and if we cannot tell where you are we ask.

What Google receives when analytics is on

Google receives information about your visits — the public pages and games you browse, referral sources, and browser and device information — and its cookies distinguish visits and sessions. We use the resulting reports to understand traffic and improve the portal.

We do not send your account identifier, email address, game-room links or sign-in tokens to Analytics. Advertising personalisation and Google signals are switched off. Analytics does not measure anything you do inside a game. Withdrawing consent stops further collection and deletes the portal’s analytics cookies; it does not erase what Google already collected. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Games in frames

Games are loaded in a frame from their own origin. The portal passes each game a short-lived token identifying you, and nothing else. A game’s own data handling is covered by its own policies where they differ.

Who else sees your data

  • Cloudflare — hosts and delivers the portal, so every request passes through it.
  • Google, Discord and Apple — only if you choose to sign in with them, and only to complete that sign-in.
  • Google Analytics — only if analytics is on, as described above.
  • The studios whose games you play — the short-lived token above.

These are service providers acting on our instructions, not buyers of data. Some of them are in the United States, so data reaching them leaves Canada and the EEA; each relies on its own published transfer safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

Your rights

Write to us at the address above and we will act on any of the following. We will not charge you for it, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

  • Get a copy of what we hold about you, in a portable form.
  • Correct anything wrong, including your display name.
  • Delete your account and everything attached to it — the account record, its sessions, its ratings and its balances.
  • Object to, or restrict, a use that rests on our legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent to analytics, which needs no letter at all: Cookie settings in the footer.
Where to complain if we get it wrong

Tell us first — we would rather fix it. If that does not resolve it, you can complain to a regulator: in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner; in the EEA, the supervisory authority for the country you live or work in; in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner’s Office. Residents of some US states have their own rights to know about and delete personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it, and the rights above are open to everyone regardless of where they live.

Children

Our games are suitable for a general audience, but the portal is not intended for children under 13, and you should not create an account if you are younger than that. In parts of the European Economic Area the age at which a person can consent for themselves is higher — up to 16 — and below it a parent or guardian needs to agree.

We do not knowingly collect more from a child than the account record described above. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we store, we will say so on this page and move the date at the top, rather than quietly editing it.
